Pathways to Education™ provides key supports to ensure that youth living in Rivertowne, Regent Park & Moss Park will successfully complete high school, continue on to post-secondary programs and become actively engaged in their career development. Pathways strives to increase the academic retention, attainment and success for high school students. The program works in partnership with parents, community agencies, volunteers, local school boards & staff in high schools to provide four types of support:
ACADEMIC: Tutoring is provided in five core subjects in a safe, social learning environment 4 nights of the week.
SOCIAL: Group Mentoring for students in grades 9 and 10, as well as specialty and career mentoring for students in grades 11 and 12 provide a venue for students to participate in and explore academic, social and career opportunities through extra-curricular activities.
FINANCIAL: Limited financial support in the form of TTC tickets, gift cards to shopping centres, grocery, or online eCommerce to help students and their families to ensure youth can successfully finish high school. A bursary is held in trust until high school graduation and disbursed directly to the accredited public post secondary program upon proof of acceptance.
ADVOCACY: Student-Parent Support Workers, help build stable relationships between the students, parents, school & community staff by monitoring school attendance, academic progress and program participation. SPSWs work closely with school administration and teachers to address issues impacting academic success & advocating on behalf of the students.
